PROFILE
We have strived to establish the profile of SAPTU both locally and on national level as a union that cares and a union that is involved with the interests and well-being of its people - a union that is value-driven with transparency as management principle with straightforward focused support for both employee and employer.
SAPTU North-West will endeavour to be part of a participatory process and dimension by using strategically formulated objectives including:
- A pro-active executive committee;
- A correctly positioned and active management committee;
- An involved general management committee; and
- An empowered and capacitated executive officer
These endeavours proved to place SAPTU North-West in a position of being a widely recognised pool of knowledge with respect to scientific research on various important matters in the tertiary sector. This was further demonstrated through dynamic interaction with all stakeholders, and rounded off with a professional approach to service delivery.
SAPTU North-West, which is still the majority and now the only recognised union of the North-West University, serves both the individual and collective interests of the Potchefstroom and Vaal Triangle campuses from its branch office at the Potchefstroom campus.In 2006 a secretary was appointed for SAPTU North-West who is positioned at the office at the Potchefstroom Campus. Mr Krister Janse van Rensburg, the former Executive Officer was appointed at FEDUSA and a new Executive Officer, Ms Jeanine Pires-Putter was appointed as he's successor.
The management structure of SAPTU North-West currently looks like this:
Objectives and Purpose of Management Structure
The Executive Officer is effective due to being empowered as member of the Management Committee with full operational decision-making capacity;
The Management Committee liaises frequently and with focused agendas;
The Executive Committee proves to be a dynamic and positive group of people who are truly committed to serve the interests of SAPTU members, both individually and collectively;
Most members of the Executive Committee are involved in the negotiation and consultation structures of the University;
Urgent matters can be dealt with immediately by the Executive Committee, which meets once every month;
Due to the new appointment of the secretary, recruitment and communication is more effective.
Members are experiencing an involved and effective union, due to the increase in co-ordinated good service of SAPTU North-West.
All these ideals only became reality in an environment characterised by mutual respect and multi-level appropriation. SAPTU North-West used this vision as a powerful tool in becoming a leader in the sector - a leader that goes to every length to promote the interests of all its stakeholders through the principles of fairness and integrity.
